HKBU has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei to embark on a joint collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI) research that aims to nurture local innovation talent and build a sustainable ecosystem for the industry.

The MoU was signed in December 2020 by Professor Roland Chin, the then President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, and Dr Matthew Leung, the Director of the Huawei Hong Kong R&D Center. The strategic research collaboration will focus on artificial intelligence, information technology, communication technology, new materials, energy and more. Both parties also expect to establish the “HKBU-Huawei Joint Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence” in the near future. Sharing the vision of developing a long-term collaboration and promoting local research and development, Huawei will provide AI resources and technical support to HKBU with its AI tools, such as the Atlas 200 DK series.

“Huawei is a leading global provider of information and communications technology infrastructure and smart devices. Through this industry-academia collaboration, I am confident that we will bring about impactful interdisciplinary research and nurture innovative AI talent for the blossoming industry,” said Professor Guo Yike, Vice-President (Research and Development) of HKBU.
