HKBU hosts webinar series on geo-information in smart societies and the environment

HKBU’s Centre for Geo-computation Studies and the Department of Geography hosted a series of webinars with the theme “Geo-Information in Smart Societies and Environment” on 11 March, 25 March and 8 April. The series explored the role of geo-information in the investigation of scientific questions in urbanised areas and the natural environment, as well as in the development and implementation of the concept of smart cities and the environment.

Co-organised with two academic journals, Remote Sensing and International Journal of Geo-Information, the webinars were broadcast live on online platforms, with more than 45,000 participants from different countries and regions, including Australia, Hong Kong, mainland China, Singapore, Switzerland and the US, attending the talks.

Dr Li Jianfeng, Associate Professor of the Department of Geography, shared his insights on the “Impact of Spatial Resolution on Assessment of Changes in Precipitation Extremes under Climate Change”. Five other scholars also delivered talks at the webinars.

The series was one of the 50th anniversary celebration activities of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
