Christy M.K. Cheung is a Chair Professor of Department of Management, Marketing and Information Systems and the Director of Research Postgraduate Programme of School of Business at Hong Kong Baptist University. She is the awardee of RGC Senior Research Fellow (研資局高級研究學者) which awarded HK$7.8 million over a period of 60 months. Her research interests include Technology Use and Well-Being, Social Media, and Adaptive and Maladaptive IT Use. She has published over two hundred refereed articles in international journals and conference proceedings, including European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, Information Systems Research, Journal of Information Technology, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, and MIS Quarterly and among others. Her work has been recognized with research awards such as the Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence (2007; 2016), Distinguished Paper Awards at the International Conference on e-Commerce, e-Administration, e-Society, e-Education, and e-Technology (2011, 2014, 2015), Best Paper Awards at the International Conference on e-Commerce, e-Administration, e-Society, e-Education, and e-Technology (2014) and International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS 2003). One of her articles is listed as a “Hot Paper” in May/June 2020 and six other articles are listed as “Highly Cited Papers” in Essential Science Indicators (ESI) in 2020.
Christy is the Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator of over 25 research grants (including General Research Fund, UGC Additional Funding for Teaching and Learning Related Initiatives, Joint Research Fund from National Natural Science Foundation of China, Faculty Research Grant, etc.) totalling over HK$12 million. Her academic leadership roles include being the Editor-in-Chief of Internet Research – an SSCI journal with an impact factor of 4.708 in 2019. She has also served in many different Senior Editor and Associate Editor roles for several major IS journals, including Decision Support Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, Information & Management, Information Systems Journal, and others. She is the award recipient of “Excellence in Reviewing” Honorable Mention in the Journal of Association of Information Systems 2018. She is the President of the Association for Information Systems (AIS-Hong Kong Chapter) since 2017. She has served as Conference Chair and Track Chair in leading IS conferences (e.g., ICIS, ECIS, AMCIS, and PACIS). She has also been invited to give keynote speech, panel discussion, and invited seminars in Canada, China, Denmark, Germany, Portugal, Taiwan, and the United States. Since 2011, she has supervised three PhD students at HKBU. They have graduated and are now placed at Durham University (UK), NEOMA Business School (France), and Northumbria University (UK).
She is the recipient of the President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Research Supervision (Hong Kong Baptist University) 2019/20, Faculty/School Performance Award in Scholarly Work (Hong Kong Baptist University), 2018/19, Outstanding Performance in Scholarly Work in the School of Business (Hong Kong Baptist University) in 2009 and 2018 and Outstanding Performance in Teaching in the School of Business (Hong Kong Baptist University) in 2010 and 2019.
